The Thirteenth Floor - DevLog #00

This first dev log will cover what’s happening, where I’m up to with the project and a few details surrounding it.

Firstly, the setup. For this game I’ll be using:

  • Unity Engine - SRP
  • C# coding language
  • All custom assets made using Blender and textured in Photoshop/Aseprite

Why This Style?

The reason I chose the PS1/PSX aesthetic is simple… I’m a sucker for the original PlayStation and it’s janky graphics! I love the look and feel of PS1 horror so much that I just wanted to add my own game into the mix.

Current Progress?

I’m into the advanced stages of development as I write this. The features currently working and in place are as follows:

  • Smooth FPS controls
  • Object interactions
  • Progression object requirement - keys/codes/items to progress in the game
  • The hotel floor design is mostly completed, just a few tweaks to ensure the player doesn’t snag on walls
  • Hundreds of props have been designed to make the world feel fuller and lived-in
  • Creepy girl model because pure horror stems from children

Features I’m still yet to add are as follows:

  • Puzzle dynamics
  • Cinematics
  • Finalised look and feel
  • Audio

As you can see, the bulk of the work has been completed before committing to posting this page as to ensure I don’t bail on this project before I complete it… Like I usually do

Below are some more FAQs you may have, if you have any more questions then please leave a comment!

When Will The Game Be Released?

There is no set release date yet as I’m working on this on my own and in my free time around family and work. I’m hoping for a release around April 2021 but that may change depending on circumstances.

How Much Will The Game Cost?
